DAY 1 – SAN JOSE
Meet and greet outside of San José International Airport and then transfer to your hotel. Accommodation at Country Inn & Suites.
DAY 2 – SAN JOSE – SAVEGRE (B)
After breakfast private transportation to Savegre, San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, one of the Costa Rica’s highest peaks. The drive takes approximately 02 hours from San José heading southeast in the Pan-American Highway. Enjoy marvelous views carrot & potato plantations, the countryside, and on a clear day, general overviews of the Cartago Province and Valley. This afternoon take a self-walk thought the lodge trails, or just seat and relax at the balcony from the main Restaurant or at the gazebo, a plus in the middle of the beautiful gardens enjoying the flora of the area, including ferns, several species of orchids, centennial oak trees, bromeliads and the opportunity of getting close to nature in this virgin area. DAY 3 – SAVEGRE (B)
Very early morning, join our local guide on this 2 hour walk, searching for birds. More than 175 species identified so far. Day at your leisure to explore the area, there are many optional activities such as horseback riding, canopy tour, and Quetzal quest.
DAY 4 – SAVEGRE – LAS CRUCES (B, L, D)
After breakfast you will be transferred to La cruces. Located at 1200 m above sea level along a spur of the Fila Cruces pacific coastal range in Coto Brus. The station protects more than 300 hectares of Premontane Wet Forest. The topography is very rugged and elevation ranges from 1000-1400 m, which allows for high diversity of flora and fauna – including an estimated 2,000 species of plants, more than 400 birds and 113 mammal species.
The station is also home to the Wilson Botanical Garden – the most famous botanical garden in Central America. The garden features beautifully diverse plantings of tropical and subtropical ornamentals, representatives of unusual plant families, and rare and endangered plants from Costa Rica and elsewhere. The garden also boasts the second largest collection of palms in the world. Particularly well represented groups include ferns, aroids, bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, marantas, and of course palms. DAY 5 – LAS CRUCES (B, L, D)
Las Cruces is a favorite spot for birders, today enjoy the bird watching and you should be able to see the Scarlet-thighed Dacnis, Silver-throated Tanager, Violaceous Trogon, Blue-headed parrot, Violet Sabrewing, and if especially lucky the Turquoise Cotinga. Also enjoy the day at the lodge-style rooms, furnished with bamboo and wood, and a private deck overlooking the lush gardens, perfect for bird and animal observation.
DAY 6 – LAS CRUCES – UVITA (B)
Early morning check out the lodge and then you will visit Corcovado National Park, one of the most bio diverse regions of Costa Rica. The Park is home of the largest population of Scarlet macaws in the country and protects more than 500 species of trees (representing 25% of all tree species in Costa Rica), among which the biggest tree in the country; a “ceibo” higher than 200 feet. Furthermore the park is inhabited by 140 species of mammals, 367 species of birds, 117 amphibians and reptiles, 40 species of fish and approximately 6000 different kinds of insects. Some of the species threatened by extinction which live here are the Danta, the giant Anteater and the six species of wild cats, which are the Puma, the Jaguarundi, the ocelot, the margay, the “Tigrillo” and the Jaguar.
Boat ride through the Mangroves of Sierpe River and the ocean where you will have a scenic view. At 10 AM is the arrival time to San Pedrillo Station. After a 3-4 hours hike you will be back at Ranger Station to have lunch. Checking at Villas Gaia around 5 PM.
DAY 7 –UVITA (B)
Wake up and meet your naturalist guide to see more birds. Rest of the day at your leisure to get some rest or take an optional activity. Enjoy a refreshing plunge in the hilltop swimming pool with ocean view and enjoy our famous cuisine in the gourmet restaurant, also there is a Spa services.
DAY 8 – UVITA – TARCOLES (B)
After breakfast you will be transferred to your last destination Tarcoles. Accommodation at Cerro Lodge, an eco-friendly lodge located at the Central Pacific of Costa Rica. Close to Carara National Park and the mangroves of the Tarcoles River, both places known by its impressive scenic beauty, large populations of birds, crocodiles and wildlife, diversity of trees and also here is the nesting site of the scarlet macaw. These places are strongly recommendable for birdwatchers, nature lovers and photographers. This afternoon visit Carara National Park that. The diversity of trees is one of the highest in the world. The 10 rarest hardwoods in the country are here, as are some of the rarest and most spectacular animals of tropical America: American crocodiles, giant anteaters, ocelots, spider monkeys and poison-arrow frogs. Carara is also one of the best bird-watching localities in all Costa Rica. Fiery-billed aracari and toucan are common, boat billed herons, with their curious keel-shaped beaks. Also scarlet macaws can be seen in flight as they migrate daily between the wet forest interior and the coastal mangrove swamps.
DAY 9 – DEPARTURE (B)
Private transfer to San José International Airport.
